Argentina full-back bidding to win a contract with Leicester
Argentina full-back Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino has joined Leicester on trial as the Tigers attempt to strengthen their backline.
Leicester currently have France international Nicolas Jeanjean on trial at the club, but have so far been unable to agree a deal with the former Stade Francais back.
And now head coach Richard Cockerill is to have a closer look at Amorosino, with the 23-year-old having played both of the summer internationals against England and impressed on the IRB Sevens circuit.
"Lucas is 23 and he can play on the wing or at full-back," Cockerill told the
Leicester Mercury.
"We are having a look at him. He comes from a good rugby background in Argentina, a bit like Marcos Ayerza did when he first came here.
"We are looking to strengthen the back-line a bit."
Amorosino will attempt to win a full contract by playing for the Tigers second string in the Guinness A League, starting on Monday against Northampton.
Negotiations are continuing with Jeanjean, with Cockerill forced to go into the opening game of the season with just 10 senior backs available.
Leicester saw Ayoola Erinle, Tom Varndell, Seru Rabeni, Julien Dupuy and Derick Hougaard all leave in the summer, while Sam Vesty, Toby Flood, Aaron Mauger and Alesana Tuilagi are injured and Harry Ellis is being rested after playing for the Lions, leaving Cockerill short of options.
