Lewis Moody and Geordan Murphy were in fine form as Gail Davis joined them for a spot of retail therapy.
Moody and Murphy in glittering form... off the field at least!
Shopping in Sloane Square tends to be a reserve of the rich and famous, but there was a very different clientele in the Links jewellery shop on Wednesday evening.
Squeezed in between the diamonds earrings and golden pendants sipping Pimms were the kind of men that would never normally be seen dead there, unless they'd done something very bad or had been dragged under sufferance from a woman.
These are the kind of men that having spent too much of their lives putting their heads down by other men's bottoms, couldn't put a diamond stud through their ear even if they wanted to.
They were there, in Will Skinner's case maybe ready to embrace the gold medallion look to compliment his open shirt and chest hair, to support Leicester pair Lewis Moody and Geordan Murphy in their testimonial year.
Lewis and Geordan have spent over a decade playing for Leicester (which given Lewis' injury record could be condensed into about a year-and-a half of actual playing time) and it doesn't matter how many times you've heard some of the tales of Lewis getting thumped by Martin Johnson in training for being "annoyingly over enthusiastic" or the time he told everyone he didn't pay his gas bill because it read "outstanding balance", it still raises a laugh.
The pair talked warmly about the man that guided them and the club to so much success at Leicester Dean Richards, who of course is now serving a three-year ban, they still can't believe the former policeman broke his own golden rule of never getting caught!
Winked
Geordan, in his very own tribute to Bloodgate and Tom Willliams told how he winked his way down the tunnel while developing a dodgy limp in Leicester's game against Harlequins at The Stoop when he came off for stitches in Saturday's game.
If only I'd seen it it would have provided some entertainment during an otherwise dreadful game. Until then the best distraction had been the array of "Yes, I am a Bloody Quins Fan" t-shirts on display.
One of the charities that Lewis and Geordan are supporting during their testimonial year is Hope HIV. Last summer Lewis spent some time visiting the project in Kenya and filmed it for
Sky Sport News. He returned with some powerful images of life for street kids filming them scavenge for food on a rubbish tip otherwise known as home.
He got an amazing reaction from the kids, many of whom had never seen a white man before, let alone one 6ft 4in with white blond hair and certainly never with ears like his - they just kept pulling them to see if they were real. Lewis hopes the money raised can continue to help rebuild many of these kids' lives.
Talking about rebuilding, Harlequins have begun their task of winning back the trust of their fans. In an interview with the club's new interim chairman, Malcolm Wall, after the game on Saturday he talked about his support for chief executive Mark Evans, the search for a new Director of Rugby, how he hopes some day we'll see Dean Richards back involved in rugby and how he intends to put the club back on a secure financial footing.
Fistycuffs
Cost-cutting is certainly the name of the game, evidence of which could be seen in the press box pre match, it was "value" all the way no more branded pasties and crisps, they've bought into the slogan "every little helps."
After a try less Saturday thank goodness for London Irish and Gloucester on Sunday who provided the second-biggest crowd of the weekend as well as five tries, one penalty try, six yellow cards, a few rounds of fistycuffs, a brilliant performance from Ryan Lamb and above all a thoroughly entertaining afternoon.
The only downside was the injury to Delon Armitage, so integral to both club and country, which will keep him out for at least three months ruling him out of Engalnd's Autumn internationals.
Wasps again managed to break with their tradition of a slow start and notched up another victory at Bath. Tom Varndell scored two tries for the second week running, managing to double his league tally for the whole of last season.
It's a rare sight to see the club top of the table so early in the season and if the past is anything to go by they're only going to get better especially with their Lions Simon Shaw and Phil Vickery to come back as well as Paul Sackey.
