Rees and Cipriani set for lengthy spells on the sidelines

Wasps have suffered a double blow with news that flanker Tom Rees and Danny Cipriani are set for lengthy spells on the sidelines. Rees, who has yet to play this season, is set for another four months out after being told he needs a second operation, having already had surgery back on his shoulder back in July. Director of rugby Tony Hanks saying: "This is not a decision that has been taken lightly by Tom or the club, however the disappointment of the delay in a return to fitness is secondary to Tom's health, comfort, and long-term career. "All parties believe that this is the best option for Tom and he will of course have the full support of the club through this difficult and frustrating time. "Throughout his rehab, Tom has been a very active club captain especially in terms of offering leadership and ensuring the delivery of standards amongst the team. This will of course continue throughout his recovery and we look forward to seeing him back playing in due course."

Frustrating

Cipriani is set for six weeks out after scans revealed he suffered a small hairline fracture in his right fibula head against Northampton. And he will join Rob Webber in the treatment room after hooker suffered a moderate medial ligament tear in the same game. Hanks added: "Danny and Rob join the injury list after the Northampton game last weekend which is frustrating for them both after a strong start to the season. "There is always disappointment when any player is injured but we have a great medical team who work tirelessly to bring our players back to health." There is some slightly better news for the Adams Park club, though, with Mark van Gisbergen set to return to full training, David Lemi's injury to be reviewed in three weeks' time and Jason Hobson planning to start running before the end of the month.
