England hooker agrees short-term deal at Headingley
Leeds Carnegie has completed the signing of former England hooker Andy Titterrell on a three-month loan deal.
The 28-year-old has been without a club since leaving Gloucester during the summer. He rose to prominence with a successful seven-year spell at Sale Sharks, winning the Premiership title in 2006.
Titterrell won five caps for England, having made his debut against New Zealand in 2004, and was part of the British & Irish Lions squad in 2005.
Having joined Gloucester in 2007, and made 30 appearances for the club, Titterrell left the Cherry and Whites in the summer.
And he is glad to having finally agreed to return to the Premiership.
He said: "I am pleased to be back in the Guineas Premiership. Having met with Neil Back and Andy Key, I have been impressed with the set up here at Leeds Carnegie and I am looking forward to playing a part in helping them move up the table."
Invaluable
Leeds head coach Neil Back added: "We are delighted to have bought in a player of the quality and experience of Andy Titterrell.
"His signing has filled in a gap in our squad and it will strengthen the team. Recently, Rob Rawlinson and Phil Nielsen have both been suffering from injuries which left us with just one fit hooker in Vili Ma'asi.
"Our young academy hooker in the squad, Scott Freer, has been ruled out for the season following a knee construction so Andy's signing is a timely one.
"He has made over 150 appearances in the Guineas Premiership with Sale and Gloucester and that will be invaluable to us."
Titterrell will go straight into their squad for Friday's match with Harlequins at Headingley Carnegie.
