Botha ban a blow for Bulls

Bakkies Botha is suspended for the Bulls' Super 14 run-in and two South Africa Tests after a tackle on Gio Aplon.

Lock to miss Super 14 knockout stages

Bakkies Botha has been ruled out of the Bulls' Super 14 title tilt and two South Africa Tests after being handed a four-week ban for a tackle on Gio Aplon. The second-row attended a judicial hearing in Pretoria over two days after the incident during the weekend encounter with the Stormers. Citing commissioner Freek Burger penalised Botha under Law 10.4 (h) for dangerously and recklessly entering a ruck without using his arms or grasping a player. Aplon required treatment after the incident, which occurred in the second minute of the contest, but managed to play on and will likely be fit for the Stormers' semi-final clash with the Waratahs. But Botha, who was captaining his team for the first time during the Newlands clash, will not be available for his side's last-four match against the Crusaders. The 30-year-old will also miss the Super 14 final, should the Bulls get there, and will be suspended for the Springboks' matches against Wales and France on June 5 and 12.
