Samoa-born winger David Smith is leaving Australia's Western Force, having signed with Top 14 club Toulon.
Smith, who racked up 41 games with the Blues and the Hurricanes before moving to Force, has agreed a two-year deal with Toulon.
The 24-year-old winger has put in some impressive Super Rugby performances this season, most notably scoring two tries in Force's 27-19 victory over the ACT Brumbies.
Force coach Richard Graham will be gutted to lose the Kiwi to Toulon, but accepts the marquee player had to consider his long-term options.
Graham said: "David was only able to sign for one year at a time and he was upfront with us that there was a longer-term opportunity for him in Toulon.
"We're genuinely disappointed that he is leaving but certainly thank him for his efforts.
"David has been absolutely fantastic. He is a quality person and someone who has enthusiastically contributed to the club this season."
