Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend has confirmed the club's players and staff are all safe and well following the terror attacks in Paris on Friday evening.

The Scottish club were in the French capital - staying in a hotel on the outskirts of the city - for a European Champions Cup match against Racing 92 on Saturday but that game has been postponed along with all other sporting events in the region.

Between 500 and 1,000 Glasgow supporters are also in Paris for the game and Townsend revealed they are also safe as far as he is aware.

Townsend told Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday morning: "It was late last night, most of our players were unaware [as] they would have gone to bed early, but the management started to hear the very sad news.

"It was just getting worse and worse, so our thoughts go out to the people of Paris and obviously last night most of our thoughts were on our own supporters. There were a lot that came out - probably between 500 and 1,000 - and the good news is that I don't think any of them were affected by the really bad scenes that we all saw last night.

"Obviously we are thinking of them, social media is a great tool to find out if the people are safe and it does seem that everybody is ok.

"I am sure there will have been a few staying close to the areas that were affected and it's sad for them that they have come out to watch a sporting event and have been caught up in something really horrible. But it sounds like they are all ok."

Townsend revealed the Warriors squad are set to fly home on Sunday after it was decided that the game would not be played this weekend.

He said: "We had a meeting this morning just to update the players about what has been happening and what might happen in terms of the fixture and following on from that we heard that the game won't be played.

"There was a chance that it might be played the following day, but all sporting events in Paris have been postponed this weekend so we will be flying home tomorrow.

"We have been informed that the flights are operating as normal and where we are is a little bit away from where most of the activities were.

"The French football team are actually staying right beside us in a hotel just up the road so there was a bit of police presence around last night but it is pretty quiet here and we are just planning to get back home tomorrow and get back to our families."
