Matt Scott has been added to the Scotland squad for next month's tour to Japan after Glasgow Warriors centre Alex Dunbar was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Gloucester-bound Edinburgh centre is a direct replacement for Dunbar, who sustained a bone injury in the 13th minute of the club's final regular-season Guinness PRO12 match against Connacht in Galway.

Dunbar will not require surgery and will now begin a period of rest and recovery with his club's medical team.

Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: "We're disappointed for Alex that his season has been cut short through injury.

"He had been playing very well and played a big role in getting us into the Guinness PRO12 play-offs.

"We wish him all the best with his rehab and we look forward to him returning to training ahead of the new season."

Scott and the rest of the Scotland squad will convene at Murrayfield on June 6 for a short training camp before departing for Tokyo five days later.

The two Tests will be played on consecutive Saturdays at J1 League football stadia; the first at the Toyota Stadium in Toyota City on June 18 and the second at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo, the homes of Nagoya Grampus and FC Tokyo respectively.

Glasgow will take on Connacht again at the Sportsground on Saturday in the play-off semi-finals, live on Sky Sports 1 at 6.30pm.
