Toulon second-row forward Samu Manoa is to undergo an operation on his injured left knee which will rule him out of action for around three months.
The news is a further blow to the Top 14 side, coming just a day after Irish lock Paul O'Connell announced his retirement due to injury without ever having donned a Toulon shirt.
United States international Manoa, who joined Toulon from Northampton last summer, injured his knee in the 29-21 friendly defeat to the Sharks on Friday, having previously sustained an injury in December.
The 30-year-old will miss a number of Top 14 games as well as the quarter-finals and possibly semi-finals of the European Champions Cup.
Toulon, the three-time defending European champions, now only have Jocelino Suta, Romain Taofifenua, Thibault Lassalle and Konstantin Mikautadze in the lock department, the latter two having also picked up injuries against the Sharks.
