South Africa international JP Pietersen has signed for Toulon, despite having only completed one season of his three-year contract with Leicester Tigers in the Premiership.

The 30-year-old's arrival at the Stade Mayol comes after Australian back James O'Connor left the Top 14 club to join Sale Sharks on his own three-year deal.

The winger, who has earned 70 caps for the Springboks, joined the Tigers last summer and made 14 starts and one appearance from the bench in the 2016/17 campaign, scoring three tries.

Pietersen becomes Toulon's 10th signing ahead of next season, joining the likes of Chris Ashton, Hugo Bonneval and Facundo Isa on the incoming list.

With several exits in the backs in the form of O'Connor, Drew Mitchell, Matt Giteau, Ayumu Goromaru and Maxime Mermoz, as well as the impending departure of Leigh Halfpenny, Pietersen is a crucial capture for Mourad Boudjellal.
