Italy captain Sergio Parisse has indicated he could shake off a foot injury suffered against France to lead his side against Six Nations championship-chasing Wales in Rome on Saturday.

Parisse was forced off late in the Azzurri's 29-0 rout by France in the Italian capital with suspected ligament damage in his right foot.

But after undergoing tests on Monday, the Stade Francais No 8 said his injury was less severe than originally feared.

"Thanks for the messages, injury less serious than first thought. Objective: to recover as soon as possible," the Argentina-born back-row forward wrote on social media.

The Italians are still expected to be without Matias Aguero and fly-half Tommaso Allan for visit of the Welsh after both were forced off with thigh and rib injuries respectively on Sunday.

Italy sit second from bottom of the table on two points, but could end up with the wooden spoon for the second successive year if Scotland, beaten by the Italians in Edinburgh, account for Ireland at Murrayfield.

Wales meanwhile must win handsomely on the final weekend and hope leaders England or second-placed Ireland come unstuck against France and Scotland respectively to regain the Six Nations crown on the final Saturday.
