Tigers chief delighted with Wasps victory
Acting Leicester head coach Richard Cockerill cut a delighted figure after watching his side grind out a 20-17 triumph over Wasps, but conceded there was still plenty of room for improvement.
The Tigers are currently without head coach Marcelo Loffreda who is leading Argentina at the World Cup and will be without him for at least another week after the Pumas booked their place in the knock-out stages by beating Ireland on Sunday.
However, the Tigers are showing plenty of spirit in his absence and emerged victorious at Adams Park thanks to a late Andy Goode penalty.
While Cockerill was quick to acknowledge the shortcomings in his side's showing, he was more than happy with the character they showed to take the spoils.
Not perfect
"It's a fantastic win for us. We weren't perfect but this is a very difficult place to play and we're very happy," he stated.
"I said at half-time we had to run harder and look after the ball better and we didn't do either. But I can't fault us for application and that's what won us the game.
"We've won three games, two away from home, and I'm a realist. I know this period is very difficult for us.
"There's been a lot of transition and we don't have a head coach. But all the guys behind the scenes are working hard and the players are working harder than anyone.
"Our goalkicking wasn't that great. But I'd never blame the kickers. They can win you a game but they don't lose them and Andy Goode's a very good one.
"Our scrum took over in the last 20 minutes with Alex Moreno coming on and really taking it to them. Our scrum and the kicker won us the game."
Too many errors
Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan admitted that his side had made too many costly errors, but insisted they were more than a little unfortunate to end up being beaten.
"We're probably making too many errors that are keeping the opposition in the game," he declared.
"We've played three and I don't feel we've been the worst side in any of those games. I was disappointed with some of the soft penalties and it was always going to be a close game.
"We've got to look at ourselves and make ourselves difficult to beat. Those little indiscretions are impacting big time on our results."
