Coach delighted at 'best performance of the season'
Wasps coach Shaun Edwards has hailed his side's 33-17 Heineken Cup win over Llanelli at Stradey Park as their "best performance of the season".
The reigning champions were in irrepressible form as they ran in five tries as Scarlets to complete an historic first victory over the Welsh region.
The match was played just 48 hours after the funeral service of former Wales and Llanelli legend Ray Gravell - with Wasps honouring him by laying t wrath before kick-off.
And Edwards believes the way Wasps played was also a sign of respect for Gravell.
He said: "It was our best performance of the season without a shadow of a doubt and against a very good side.
"The biggest sign of respect we could have paid Ray was to come here and play some hard-nosed tough rugby, just the way he liked it with no quarter asked and no quarter given."
Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan echoed Edwards' sentiments, but also plaid tribute to the players.
He added: "We said that away wins are hard to get in this group so to get a five-point away win is a tremendous performance and credit the players."
The result came on the back of Llanelli's heavy defeat to Clermont - and means the
Scarlets are now rooted to the bottom of the pool.
Opportunity
However Scarlets director of rugby Phil Davies insists his side can still bounce back and reach the quarter-finals.
He said: "It's not over until the last game is played. We have got plenty of opportunity to score points and we will do that there is not doubt.
"We are bottom of the group it is simple as that. We have got four games left and we will be trying to put points on the board.
"This group was always going to be tough but we have four games left which are going to be cup finals.
"We will hope to get the show back on the road. We will take it on the chin and move on.
"They played very effectively and they were good value for the win.
"They are not champions for no reason and they were very clinical. So no complaints from our side of things.
"The effort was there from us, but there is a bit more to us than that performance, so that was disappointing."
