Ospreys head coach upbeat after hard-fought victory at Ravenhill

Lyn Jones insists Ospreys are still well-placed for the Heineken Cup quarter-finals despite failing to leapfrog Gloucester at the top of Pool Two. The Welsh region came from 8-6 down at half-time to beat Ulster 16-8 in Belfast on Friday night. But after their 48-17 mauling of the opposition in Swansea last time out more had been expected from Jones' side as they missed out on the try-scoring bonus point. They have moved just a point behind the Guinness Premierhip leaders in Pool Two though, ahead of Gloucester's clash with Bourgoin on Saturday, and Jones is staying positive. He told Sky Sports 1: "We knew it was going to be a difficult game and we are absolutely delighted with the win. "You've got to come away sometimes and tough things out. At half-time we were just a little bit flat with our performance and the way the players came out in the second half was great. "We've got a target in mind to be able to get to be able to get through. We're still in the competition. We've got Gloucester at home and Bourgoin away and they're two games we've really got to win. "But we've put ourselves in a good position so it's just up to us now."

Contrast

Ulster caretaker coach Steve Williams was pleased with his side's improved display but ultimately disappointed following a ninth defeat in 12 matches. "Last week we let ourselves down and took a step backwards but tonight we got at them and said we'd fight for every ball," he added. "We stuck at them tonight and got in their faces, but we had a couple of chances we just didn't finish off. "When we were direct we looked effective and if we play like that we will win games."
