Wasps to allow coach to take up part-time role

Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan has confirmed an agreement is now in place to allow Shaun Edwards to join Wales' coaching staff on a part-time basis. New Welsh supremo Warren Gatland has invited the Edwards to take up a position on his team and it seems certain the former rugby league star will now do so. McGeechan has spoken with Gatland to iron out the practicalities of the arrangement and expects a formal contract - currently being discussed by Wasps and the Welsh Rugby Union - to be signed in the next few days. "It is moving on and I think it will be sorted fairly quickly now," the Scot stated. "Gats and I have spoken quite a lot this last week and we have agreed between us how it will work. "The aim is to give Shaun extra experience and he can bring that knowledge back to the club. It won't be doing anything detrimental to the club, which was also a priority."

Convincing victory

Meanwhile, Wasps' Heineken Cup defence remains on track after a convincing 40-7 bonus-point triumph over Llanelli Scarlets. Indeed, the Londoners had already run in four tries by the break and now head to Munster on Saturday knowing victory would see them top the so-called 'Group of Death' and book a quarter-final place. Skipper Lawrence Dallaglio stated: "It is unfortunate for the competition because all three sides have played some good rugby but that is the reality we all face. There are slightly easier groups where second-placed teams will go through. "It needs sorting out. You want to see the best sides go through and that is not always going to happen. "I think we all agree the competition possibly needs reviewing but it is still very exciting." Of next week's crunch clash at Thomond Park, Dallaglio added: "It is a huge challenge. I always thought it would come down to the wire in this group. We are looking forward to a great game and we have to make sure it is us that go through. "The experience of playing Munster at Thomond Park will be a unique one for all of us." For their part, injury-ravaged Scarlets endured another disappointing afternoon and are the only side in the competition yet to earn a point.
Peel injured
Wales half-backs Dwayne Peel and Stephen Jones are among their walking wounded, with the former a doubt for Wales' opening RBS 6 Nations Championship game against England on February 2. "I doubt he will be fit for next week and after that I don't know," stated Scarlets boss Phil Davies. "It is not hugely serious but it is a week-by-week thing. "It has been a tough campaign. We have not had anything out of it, which has been disappointing. "We came here today with the bare bones of the group and had a go but when we can't hold onto the football for more than a couple of phases you will get punished and that is what happened."
