Leicester finish European campaign with victory over Leinster

Leicester coach Marcelo Loffreda felt his side had restored some pride by beating Leinster 25-9 in their final Heineken Cup Pool Six fixture. The Tigers were already eliminated from the competition after losing all three of their away matches at Leinster, Toulouse and Edinburgh. But they produced a high-energy performance to run in three tries through Brett Deacon, Seru Rabeni and Ben Herring and end Leinster's slim hopes of reaching the last eight. "The players showed a lot of pride," said Loffreda. "That was one of the things we asked for during the week and we have to be pleased with the answer. "The team showed they can play well in great adversity. "They were encouraged to play on the front foot and they did that for most of the game. "Leinster are one of the biggest teams in Europe and we dominated them."

Lack of discipline

Loffreda was less pleased with the yellow cards earned by Julian White and Andy Goode as Leicester were briefly reduced to 13 men towards the end of the first half. White was fortunate not to see red after landing with a right hook to the head of Leinster lock Malcolm O'Kelly, while Goode joined him following a high tackle on Brian O'Driscoll. "We had a lack of discipline in some parts of the game," admitted Loffreda. Leinster head coach Michael Cheika said missed chances had been the story of their Heineken Cup campaign. He said: "We should have put at least one chance away when they were down to 13 men. "We weren't clinical enough and that summed up our campaign. "We haven't been able to pick up away wins and bonus points because we haven't been clinical enough. "In the first half we sat back, they got opportunities and made more of them than we did."
