Sharks boss demands more

Sheridan treatment leaves Frenchman fuming at Edgeley Park

Sale director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre was far from a happy man despite seeing his side secure a 20-13 victory over Harlequins. The Sharks extended their unbeaten home record dating back to last April thanks to tries from lock Chris Jones and Spanish winger Oriol Ripol. Victory moves them into fourth place in the Guinness Premiership, though Saint-Andre feels his side must continue to improve. "It was a nice counter-attack by Mark Cueto and a good pass from Rory Lamont," he said about the Ripol's crucial second-half score. "But we made too many mistakes in the game and the Guinness Premiership is the toughest competition in the world when you start making mistakes."

Treatment

Saint-Andre was also not impressed by the officials who he claims are unfairly treating the Sharks prop, Andrew Sheridan. A succession of penalties awarded against the England international left the Frenchman fuming. He said: "Andrew Sheridan in the most punished prop in the Guinness Premiership and it's starting to become a problem. "Four or five times in the scrum it happened - and Sheridan is punished every time. It happens to us more than any other side in the Guinness Premiership." Harlequins tried to launch a late fightback at Edgeley Park but have now won just one of their last 13 games.
Spirit
A 67th-minute try from Tani Fuga, and a conversion and two penalties from Adrian Jarvis, at least meant they returned home with a losing bonus point. Despite the bad run Quins are still sat in sixth spot in the table and are just five points back of their conquerors on Friday night. "It has never been my goal to finish in the top four but if we do that then great," said boss Dean Richards. "We finished seventh last year and we are still on course to improve on that. "But this is a young side with an average age of 24 and we've showed great spirit."
