McGeechan and Edwards retain play-off ambitions
Delighted Wasps coaching duo Ian McGeechan and Shaun Edwards believe they can still make the play-offs after a stunning 42-34 win at Bath.
Wasps produced a scintillating second half performance to end Bath's 15-month unbeaten home record in the Guinness Premiership - silencing the packed-out Recreation Ground.
Edwards described the clash as a 'must-win game' prior to kick-off as Wasps aim to finish the season with a flourish.
Despite trailing 20-13 at the interval, the visitors ran in five tries to claim a bonus-point and keep their play-off hopes alive.
Edwards admitted: "If we had lost today we would have been out of the play-offs."
Pleased
Coaching partner McGeechan heaped praise on his side following their second-half showing.
"We've had a bit of catching up to do after the World Cup. We've got to perform as well as we did today every week.
"I'm really pleased. We were making some basic errors in the first half and we knew that if we were to do that then Bath would hurt us.
"But the 20 minutes after half-time was as well as we've played this season."
McGeechan also took time to praise the impressive recent performances from former England full-back Josh Lewsey.
"Josh is really enjoying his rugby at the moment and it shows," he said.
Meehan dismay
Bath head coach Steve Meehan couldn't hide his disappointment after the game, and admitted his bemusement at his side's inept defensive display.
"It was terribly frustrating - almost inconceivable," he said.
"Defence has been one of our strengths over the last 12 months.
"Wasps played well but to loose a grip on our defensive systems was unacceptable.
"Our indiscipline gave them their opportunities in the first half so we had to make sure that it didn't happen again.
"But in the first 20 minutes of the second half we just didn't get our organisation right. I'm not sure why."
