Carnegie chief defiant over the club's future
Relegation-bound Leeds Carnegie will continue to build for the future, according to chief executive Gary Hetherington.
The Guinness Premiership's bottom side slumped to their 14th defeat of the season at home to Bristol on Sunday and they have collected just six points all season.
Despite the 30-13 reverse, which leaves the West Yorkshire side 16 points adrift at the bottom of the table, Hetherington insists the club will continue to invest.
National One might be beckoning, but the chief executive is still heading to Sydney to scout potential signings for Leeds and their sister club, Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos.
Belief
Hetherington said: "Irrespective of whichever division we are in next season, it will not alter the plans and the strategy at all.
"That is to retain our better quality players and add at least six new players. That was the strategy for this season and will be the same for next season.
"This season has proved to be very, very frustrating because whilst the resources have been there - and still are - the players haven't been.
"There has simply been a lack of availability of players which could have enhanced our squad. The search continues and we are determined that the plan will go on unabated."
Quality
For Bristol it was a first away win in the league for more than a year and coach Richard Hill admits it is a relief to end that dismal record.
He also feels scrum-half Shaun Perry, who Brian Ashton experimented with for England, deserves special praise.
Hill said: "For him to come back after a nasty throat injury - it was a bizarre fracture of the windpipe - and play like that showed what he can do.
"He bullocked his way over for two tries and I was very pleased with the second-half performance from the boys."
