Sale chief praises McAlister versatility after fly-half display.
Sale director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre praised the efforts of Luke McAlister, who starred at fly-half as the Sharks made the European Challenge Cup semi-finals.
With Charlie Hodgson on the bench following the birth of his first child, former All-Black centre McAlister had the number ten shirt, and he starred in Sale's 49-24 victory over Brive.
24-year-old McAlister arrived at Edgeley Park on a lucrative two-year deal after the World Cup, and he showed why he was worth the money as he showed his versatility.
Sale will now face a semi-final trip to either Bath or Leeds on April 26, and winning the competition will secure them a place in next season's Heineken Cup.
Saint-Andre was delighted with McAlister's 19-point display, as he looks to prove himself after some questionable displays.
Versatile
"We rested Charlie but Luke showed what a good footballer he is and everybody knows that," said Saint-Andre.
"It was good to see him at fly-half - he showed a lot of class and is starting to gel more and more in the team."
Saint-Andre's men now face trips to Bath and Wasps in the Guinness Premiership as they look to earn a play-off place.
"We're in the semi-finals of the competition and are still in contention in the Guinness Premiership," added Saint-Andre.
"It will be a big race in the Premiership but we're only a few points off the top and that's much better than at this stage last season."
The only negative for Sale was a leg injury which forced Chabal off in the second half but Saint-Andre hoped it was not serious.
