Australian centre suffers suspected neck injury

Dragons coach Paul Turner said he was unsure of the severity of the injury suffered by Marc Stcherbina during their 26-7 Heineken Cup loss to Toulouse. Following an incident in the 49th minute, a 10-minute delay at the Stade Ernest Wallon ensued before the Australian centre was taken to hospital with a suspected neck injury. Turner admitted: "Marc has gone off to hospital and we are obviously very worried about him. "I did not see what happened to him because the medical staff took over immediately. "It's too early to tell what the diagnosis is." The Magners League side provided a sterner test for the three-time champions than many expected in the south of France. Toulouse struggled to add to Yannick Jauzion's opening try even though Richard Fussell was yellow-carded for the visitors.

Class

However, they eventually showed their class with a third straight win through second-half tries from Clement Poitrenaud, Maxime Medard and Florian Fritz. Poitrenaud said: "We never thought this match would be an easy match. Newport were tough opponents as we expected. We played well but we know next week will be more difficult." The Welsh region, who scored a late try through hooker Steve Jones, will nevertheless take some confidence into the return at Rodney Parade next Saturday. Turner added: "There were positives for us. We scored a fine try, lock Hoani MacDonald was fantastic and we had a young outfit out there. "There were a couple of turning points in the game but ultimately our kicking game was not good enough. And against a side like Toulouse, you have to keep hold of the ball and that was the difference. "It was always going to be difficult to come here and Toulouse aren't top of the French championship for nothing. We held our own for long periods but they wore us down. "But next week we'll be on our own patch and it will be a different story."
