Scottish side insist Heineken Cup match vital for confidence
Edinburgh assistant coach Rob Moffat insists that his side's Heineken Cup victory over Castres was vitally important for their future.
Neither side could progress from Pool Two before Friday's contest, but the Scottish side shrugged off suggestions that the fixture was meaningless.
Edinburgh felt they had not done themselves justice during the Heineken Cup this season, and felt a good performance was vital for their confidence going forward.
The home side did emerge with a confidence-boosting bonus point victory in a 32-14 success, and Moffat was delighted with the performance.
Strong finish
"We badly wanted to win that one because we felt we had not done ourselves justice in the tournament," Moffat insisted.
"Our big aim now is to finish third in the group in order to help our seeding prospects in the future."
Moffat did think that the margin of victory could have been ever greater at Murrayfield after his side's performance.
Although disappointed with not taking more try-scoring opportunities, Moffat praised the overall display - singling out Ben Cairns and Hugo Southwell for a special mention.
"Some of our rugby was superb - but some of it was the exact opposite," he explained.
Set pieces
"If we had got our set-piece right, we would have scored a few more tries.
"I thought Ben Cairns at centre was outstanding - it was probably his best game for us.
"I was also delighted with the contribution of Hugo Southwell - who is performing better than at any stage of his career.
"He is running through challenges and staying on his feet a lot more than previously."
