Injury mars Worcester win

Chris Latham will spend the rest of the season on the sidelines after fracturing his shoulder in Worcester's victory over Gloucester.

Latham out for the rest of the season

Chris Latham will miss the rest of the season after suffering a fractured shoulder blade in Worcester's 14-10 win over Gloucester. The former Australia full-back injured himself as he made a try-saving tackle on Luke Narraway. Worcester head coach Mike Ruddock confirmed that medical checks showed he had suffered more than the dislocation initially feared. "It's not good news; the medical report tells me that Chris has a dislocation and a fracture around the shoulder," Ruddock said. "His season effectively is over. He will be back next season there is no doubt about that and wish him a speedy recovery."

Energy

Despite the injury marring Worcester's win, Ruddock was delighted at his side's performance against the Guinness Premiership high-flyers. He added: "Last week at London Irish we were poor in defence and we lacked energy and commitment. "So we took a bit of a bold gamble this week and gave the guys a bit more time out. We only trained on Friday and Saturday to try to freshen them up. "In fact we had a barbecue and bit of a get-together on Monday afternoon so I might have to make it a regular thing, although I'm not planning to. "It was a call we made to try to get them up for today. This week we didn't leave it on the training pitch, we transferred it onto the park." Worcester's victory was inspired by nine-points from stand-off Willie Walker, who is currently on-loan from Gloucester. Director of rugby Dean Ryan insisted he has not been made to regret allowing the Kiwi to face his own club at Sixways. He said: "Why would I send a guy to play games and then take two off him by not allowing him to play against us? "We sent Willie here to play games, he's playing well for Worcester and it seemed a pretty silly idea to take two of those off him. "We just butchered opportunity after opportunity and we allowed a courageous defensive side to stay in the match. "We are lacking a cutting edge but we had three or four opportunities where if we had simple passes it would have been a completely different game. "I don't think there is a huge amount wrong but we have got to take our opportunities."
