Willie Walker has joined Worcester on a permanent basis following a successful three-month loan spell at Sixways.

Worcester win battle to sign 30-year-old from rivals Gloucester

Willie Walker has joined Worcester on a permanent basis, signing a two-year deal with the Warriors. The 30-year-old enjoyed a three-month stint at Sixways after arriving on loan from Guinness Premiership rivals Gloucester. He played nine games during the season, contributing 74 points and helping his temporary employers complete a league double over his parent club. Director of rugby Mike Ruddock was delighted to have recruited Walker having seen off some stiff competition to secure his signature.

Consummate professional

"We're absolutely delighted to be able to announce that Willie Walker has decided to join Worcester Warriors," he said on the club's website. "There was a lot of interest from a lot of other clubs for Willie's services so we're pleased he has chosen to join us. "It was a huge opportunity to work with Willie during his loan spell with Warriors and because of that we saw just exactly how good a player he is. "Willie is the consummate professional and also a match winner. The fact that he can play in more than one position is an incredible asset to the team. "We are convinced that Willie will add something extra to our squad and his reputation as a quality front line goal kicker also adds to the significance of this signing." Walker, who has previously played Super 14 rugby with the Highlanders, will be an English qualified player next season under residency.
