Gloucester coach blasts team after Biarritz hammering
Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath was fuming with his side after their 45-15 mauling at the hands of Biarritz in the Heineken Cup on Saturday.
The French side hammered their Guinness Premiership rivals with Biarritz winger Takudzwa Ngwenya claiming a hat-trick to inflict a heavy defeat on Gloucester at Parc des Sports Aguilera.
Tom Voyce and Jake Boer both went over in the second half to at least save Gloucester further embarrassment.
However, Ayoola Erinle and Valentin Courrent completed the rout to put Biarritz well in control of Pool Two of the Heineken Cup.
Redpath said: "Ultimately we shot ourselves in the foot by making so many basic errors.
Missed tackles
"Three of their tries came from two missed tackles and one dropped pass. You just can't compete against a team of the calibre of Biarritz when you give away soft tries like that.
"We were suitably punished and we have to accept that we weren't good enough."
Redpath said that mistakes cost his side the chance to possibly earn a victory in Biarritz.
"It's a real pity because the forwards worked very hard and there were still a lot of good things from the game," he added.
"We created enough opportunities to put some pressure on them but we failed to make them count by making more individual errors."
The result left Biarritz four points clear at the top of Pool Two ahead of Newport Gwent Dragons, with Gloucester third.
Important
Biarritz coach John Isaac said: "It was very important for us to keep up our unbeaten start to the pool stages of the Heineken Cup, especially at home.
"It was important we followed up last weekend's performance in Glasgow with another strong display and I was delighted with the attitude and commitment of our players.
"Gloucester are a tough, strong side with a big set of forwards but I felt we dealt with them well. We got off to a good start and once we were able to service Takudzwa Ngwenya, we didn't look back.
"Now we look forward to the double-header with Newport Gwent Dragons in December."
