Coach delighted by "most courageous performance"

Andy Robinson lavished praise on his gutsy Scotland side as they battled to an historic 9-8 triumph over Australia at Murrayfield. The Scots produced a heroic rearguard action to keep the tourists at bay and emerged victorious when Matt Giteau sent a last-gasp conversion wide. Robinson labelled the display by his side as "the most courageous performance I have ever been involved in" as they claimed a first win over Australia for some 27 years. "I've said to the team that is the most courageous performance I've ever been involved in," a proud Robinson stated. "The effort that has been put in, the way the team got off the floor and defended - and credit to Graham Steadman for the way he's put this defence together - was incredible. "The amount of ball that we gave Australia to play with throughout the game and the courage that the players had to get up and keep knocking them over. "We needed a bit of luck, I thought the guys worked hard to establish that luck. "If we can perform like that, with that same courage every time we go on the pitch, then we can grow a team and that's what we're about now. "That's the baseline for our performance, the guys have got belief."

Dominated

Australia dominated the match for long periods but were unable to turn territory and possession into points as a succession of opportunities went begging. Ryan Cross did eventually breach the Scottish try-line in the final minute, but Giteau - who also missed a couple of penalties - could not steal victory with the conversion. "I'd like us to play with a little bit more ball and want to keep hold of it a little bit more," added Robinson. "But that's the levels that we've got to improve and it just shows you we do have to improve with our ball in hand. That's a platform now for us to be able to do that."
