Glasgow coach enjoys victory - but anticipates backlash

Glasgow coach Sean Lineen says his side's newfound self-belief was fully reflected in the 33-11 Heineken Cup scoreline they inflicted on Gloucester on Friday. The home side kept alive their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages with a thoroughly convincing win - 27 points coming in the first half alone. "The team really showed the belief they have in each other and we showed a lot of patience particularly in the second half when they exerted a bit of pressure on us and we managed to keep our discipline," Lineen said. "We did let them back in a bit after half-time but we held our line and some of our defending was outstanding but we have worked hard on that area and the players knew exactly what they had to do. "This is an important part of the season for us and we have to stay focused and we know that when we go to Gloucester next week they will be hurting and it will be hard. "We know how intimidating it can be there and it will be intense but we will enjoy the win tonight then build towards what will be a really tough one in the rematch."

Disappointing

Gloucester coach Brian Redpath was left to reflect on a disappointing effort from his team. "Our execution was flat in a lot of the things we tried to do and our discipline in certain areas was poor and there were certain areas of the game where we simply didn't turn up," he said. "There was no sense of complacency coming into this game because we knew we had to front up, but going so far behind at half-time was too big an ask for the second half. "Credit to Glasgow, they were very efficient, the back row were good and they held us well in the set piece and overall they took their points better than we did." Redpath conceded that he and his side will have to up their game significantly at Kingsholm next weekend. "We will go over this one with the players and ask them if they think this is good enough," he said. "We will have 12,000 supporters to answer to next week and we have to accept the criticism we will get because we simply didn't perform. "We had three or four driving lineouts which came to nothing, we made it easy for them to defend against us and we never asked any questions of their defence. "That is not good enough and we have to up our game because we have the chance to put it right when Glasgow come to us next week."
