Gloucester coach critical of side's second-half display
Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath voiced criticism of his side's second-half display despite their 17-5 victory over Worcester in the LV=Cup at Kingsholm.
Tries from full-back Freddie Burns and flanker Akapusi Qera, plus seven points from the boot of fly-half Nicky Robinson, helped the Cherry and Whites to a comfortable win.
But Redpath said he felt his side's attentions wandered after the interval and was particularly unhappy with their inability to capitalise on the sin-binning of Worcester flanker Chris Cracknell.
He said: "Despite the win the players are disappointed with their performance. In the first half I was delighted with our performance against a strong Worcester side but in the second half we just didn't finish.
"We had a number of chances in the second half and we have got to take two or three more chances if we are going to continue to win and beat the better sides."
Of Cracknell's sin-binning, he said: "During his absence we had five set pieces and blew the lot.
"There was a not straight, a free kick, it's very frustrating and we have got to get this right.
"However, three months ago we would have lost a game like this so not to play well and win is satisfying."
With Wales international Robinson also missing two very kickable penalties, Redpath added that his side's goal-kicking will need to improve.
"A top-class goal-kicker is very important, Nicky missed a couple today," he added.
"Due to weather conditions we have been unable to get on the pitch but it is essential that we take our simple kicks, today it didn't matter too much but it will in the future."
Worcester only got on the scoreboard through a late Chris Pennell try and forwards coach Tony Windo said: "We were very ring rusty today and our execution wasn't up to scratch. We as coaches are partly to blame because we chose to rest our first-choice team for the last three weeks and it showed.
"However it is not possible to field our first-choice side every week due to the physicality of the game. The only positive aspect of our game was our defensive effort when Cracknell was in the sin bin."
