Gloucester boss praises 'clinical' display

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath has paid tribute to his side in the wake of their 47-3 crushing of Sale on Saturday. Redpath praised the Cherry and Whites for adapting to the terrible conditions and run in seven tries on their way to victory at Kingsholm. "We got the ascendancy in the first 20 minutes at the set-piece scrum which enabled us to get a platform," he said. "Credit to the players that the skill set in those conditions was great. We did not knock-on as many balls as the opposition and we were far more clinical when we had the opportunity. "The desire and work ethic of the forwards was great. They tend to get lost in conditions like that. "We learnt a lesson from last week when Leicester were very strong in the scrum.

Shattered

"It creates problems for teams and it makes it very difficult for other teams, especially on a pitch like that today, if you are under pressure set-piece-wise. "The pleasing thing is we got what we wanted which was a win - and a bonus point win too." Meanwhile, Sale head coach Kingsley Jones said his players were shattered by their devastating defeat. Jones said: "It was a painful 80 minutes, to be honest, with the first 20 minutes particularly painful. "We struggled with our scrum and, in that first 20 minutes, Gloucester were excellent. "The pressure and the upper hand they had told on us. Everything stemmed from there, even the counter-attack stuff. "It is a difficult one. At half-time, we said it was the low point of the season and I wanted us to go back out there and start it again right from then. "My job is not easy in situations like this and the thing for us is how we get back to where we need to be. We really need to regain some confidence now and get things right."
