Newcastle Falcons have signed tight-head prop Paddy Ryan from French side Libourne on a two year deal.

Ryan came through the Academy system at Munster and played for their U20 and 'A' teams.

Capable of packing down on either side of the scrum, Ryan has experience of playing in the RFU Championship with London Welsh and the Italian National Championship of Excellence with Viadana.

While at the Italian side, Ryan also featured in the Amlin Challenge Cup, playing against Grenoble and the then London Wasps in the pools stages of the 2013/14 tournament.

Eligble to play for Ireland or the USA, Ryan played his club rugby in Cork for Dolphin RFC and Highfield RFC, and in 2009 was part of Highfield's All-Ireland U18 championship winning side.

Speaking about the new addition, Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said: "Paddy was brought to our attention by Jamie Noon and having seen some of his games, we're pleased to have brought him to Kingston Park.

"He has a good level of experience having played in Italy's national competition and the European Challenge Cup and has impressed the coaches so far in pre season with his athleticism in the running drills so far.

"He has a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to seeing him realise that with us.”
