Gloucester face trip to take on Saracens at Vicarage Road

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath vowed to "give it our all" in their Aviva Premiership play-off at Saracens after crushing Sale on the final day of the regular season. The Cherry and Whites' 68-17 success at Kingsholm sealed third place in the table and participation in the post-season. But it will be a difficult semi-final visit to Vicarage Road next weekend, where they were defeated 35-12 only a fortnight ago. "We under-performed at Saracens last time," said Redpath. "We will make changes from the side that went up there last month and we'll give it our all. "They have some outstanding individuals and it will be a real challenge." On the performance against Sale, Redpath added: "We were very sloppy to start with but I was delighted with the way that we knuckled down and it was great to finish in this way. "They did have a lot of players leaving though Charlie Hodgson and Dwayne Peel did their best to energise them." Charlie Sharples scored three tries and Henry Trinder crossed twice in a convincing home success, with Neil Briggs and Neil McMillan getting the visitors' tries when it was far too late.

Attitude problem

Steve Diamond, Sale's executive director, was critical of his team's efforts. "In the second half we conceded seven tries and that's an indication of how far this club has dropped," he said. "Thirteen or 14 of them won't be at Sale next season and we didn't come down here with the right mindset. "I expected it as that is what happens if you are not up for it and players don't show any self respect." However Diamond was positive about Sale's future promising a rise in their fortunes. He said: "It is possible to turn it round quickly. The team and coaching staff are already in place for next season. "We'll have a month and then regroup and stop this spiral downwards. We won't come down here and take a thrashing like that again." Diamond also paid tribute to Charlie Hodgson who, after 11 years service to the Sale club, played his last match before departing for Saracens. He said: "He has been a great stalwart for the club and didn't deserve to go out on a performance like that". Redpath also praised Hodgson: "He is one of the best number 10s I have ever seen and hasn't got the recognition he has deserved."
