England are using giant speakers during their training sessions to replicate the noise they will face when they take on Wales in Cardiff on Friday.

Stuart Lancaster's side were soundly beaten at the Millennium Stadium in 2013 amid a cauldron-like atmosphere and the England head coach has tried to replicate conditions in an effort to encourage more direct communication between his players.

He said: "All it is is a way of trying replicate for the players who haven't been there examples of the type of sounds and how it reverberates around the stadium and how clear your communication has to be.

"Often, you can't hear yourself on the field because of the intensity of the occasion and it just replicates that and gives you a bit of a chance to prepare.

"We've not done it all week, I can assure you, because we'd have no eardrums left!

"We've got a decision to make by the close of play today on the roof. We're waiting for the latest weather forecast but it looks like it's set fair and if it is then we want it open."

On the returns of fly-half Danny Cipriani and No 8 Nick Easter, who both feature on the bench, Lancaster added: "Danny's certainly ready to take his chance. Stephen Myler picked up a calf injury and struggled to train so when it came down to it, the selection decision became an easy one.

"We obviously trust both players but Danny, by training full time, and Stephen's calf injury got Danny the nod. We certainly trust him and he's trained well. This isn't the first time he's been back in - he benched in the first and third Tests in New Zealand.

"This isn't a new guy coming back into camp. He's been in the camp for 12 months. He's been waiting patiently for his chance and he might get that chance off the bench. Our priority is building the team around 10 and that's George at the moment.

Intelligent

"Nick has been great. He's picked things up very quickly which you'd expect for someone who's played so much rugby and is an intelligent rugby player. Clearly, his role in the side is covering No 8 and second row - he's done that for Harlequins.

"We had a lot of injury problems during the camp but the camp has been great. We're looking forward to the game now and we're very excited about the team we've picked.

"To leave someone of the calibre of Alex Corbisiero out of the team shows the quality we think we've got in the forward pack.

"Obviously in the back line, there's less experience but there is exciting talent. There's Anthony Watson and Johnny May. They've got wheels on the wings. Certainly Jonathan Joseph deserves his chance with his form for Bath.

"With George Ford and Ben Youngs, we've got a really good balance across the board.

"At centre, there've been reasons why combinations have changed over the last few games. Injuries have played their part. Luther Burrell is back in having been out of the equation in November and Kyle Eastmond, Manu Tuilagi and Brad Barritt are out.

"We're happy with the combination we've got. Luther will bring that gainline physical presence and JJ has been outstanding for Bath over the last six months. They're up against two experienced centres but Burrell and Billy Twelvetrees acquitted themselves well last year at Twickenham.

"Dan Cole has been great. He's got over that foot injury and has trained properly all week. He's such an experienced player and going into a game like Wales away, it really counts. That tips the balance.

"Both sides want a good start in the Six Nations. We lost away in France last year and the bounce of the ball didn't go our way. We lost that but ended up with four good wins. All six sides want to win the first game."
