Jonny Wilkinson believes fielding Elliot Daly at outside-centre will give the Wasps man the best chance to influence England.

Eddie Jones has named Daly at 13 for his side's opening autumn international, against South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday.

Daly's ability to kick long with his left foot was cited as a key factor in his inclusion by Jones, and Wilkinson feels that element of his attacking arsenal will be vital in maximising attacking situations.

"When you have someone like (Elliot) Daly who has a left foot, who has played at the back and who is probably capable of playing in and around the first receiver role as well, it does expand your opportunities.

"Often in rugby the influence in terms of decision-making is the guy closest to the ruck and usually that's the guy with the least time.

"So guys, when they are further away from the ruck, at 13 or 15 and not just 12, they have more time in which they can maximise the influence they have.

"Because they are used in their teams as game readers and decision makers it does create a great flow of communication and can make small opportunities very, very large."
