Second-half salvo sends hosts through

England Under-20s failed to reach the last four of the IRB Junior World Championship for the first time after their 28-15 loss to hosts South Africa. And the bonus point victory for the Baby Boks also ended Ireland's hopes of progressing despite their 41-12 win against Italy. England had led 3-0 at the break and looked to have the edge up front - particularly in the scrums. However they were guilty of not taking their chances and South Africa made them pay as they cut loose after the interval. And as the half wore on England looked out on their feet with the effects of a brutal contest catching up on them.

Penalties

Wasps bound full-back Tommy Bell scored all England's points with five penalties. However Shaun Adendorff scored twice, while Pieter Steph du Toit and William Small-Smith got one apiece for the hosts - with Pat Howard slotting over four conversions. South Africa will now face Argentina in the semi-finals. For Ireland, Peter Nelson (2), Chris Farrell, Aaron Conneely, James Rael and Luke McGrath scored tries against Italy while Jack Carty slotted over 11 points - but it wasn't enough.
