Ireland have recalled Leinster centre Garry Ringrose to their squad for Saturday's Six Nations clash with Wales.

Ringrose has been struggling with ankle trouble since January but returns to the squad as an experienced replacement for Robbie Henshaw.

Henshaw's tournament, and 2017-18 season, was brought to a premature end after he sustained a shoulder injury in the wide-margin win over Italy earlier this month.

Chris Farrell and Ringrose are the most likely candidates to replace Henshaw in the No 13 shirt.

Ireland have also added Munster hooker Niall Scannell and Ulster scrum-half John Cooney to the squad which is preparing to face Wales at their Carton House base.

Scannell is providing cover for Rob Herring - who suffered an elbow injury playing for Ulster over the weekend - with Cooney an additional option after Luke McGrath hurt his knee in Leinster's clash with Scarlets.
