Leeds boss insists victory relegation rivals is "non-negotiable"

Leeds coach Neil Back has insisted that victory in the relegation clash with Newcastle is "non-negotiable". Bottom club Leeds trail the Falcons by two points, but having played a game more than their rivals, they can ill-afford to slip up at Kingston Park on Saturday. But despite having lost 22-5 to Newcastle back in February, Carnegie have beaten London Irish and Exeter in recent weeks. And Back has told his players only a positive result will do if they are to survive. "We are in a good place going into this game, the result of which is non-negotiable - we must win," said Back. "Winning against Exeter has definitely put a spring in the step of the squad this week.

Opportunity

"The spirit has been good all season, throughout the highs and lows that we have experienced, but we know it is still all to do. "We have won three games out of 18, and we need to win two of our last four games as a minimum, which shows the size of the job still in front of us. "After the defeat to Newcastle we always knew that the run of fixtures we had ahead of us would give us another opportunity to get off the bottom of the table. "We had played all the teams in the top half, and we had a run of games against teams outside the play-off positions. "When we played Newcastle at our place, we went into that game knowing that a win would take us off the bottom of the table, and perhaps that was part of our problem on the night. "We now know that anyone who turns up on Saturday expecting that we can just get the win over Newcastle will be sorely disappointed."
