Worcester have signed scrum-half Michael Dowsett to provide further competition for the No 9 jersey at Sixways.

The England-qualified 24-year-old has spent three seasons with Australian Super Rugby side Brumbies, having made his debut in 2014.

He had made 22 appearances for the Canberra-based side, with the latest coming in this year's Super Rugby campaign.

A competent kicker with both feet, Dowsett has learned his craft under the guidance of Wallabies legends Stephen Larkham and George Gregan, while also having been mentored by Nic White at the Brumbies.

Dowsett recently featured for New Zealand outfit Southland in their Mitre 10 Cup competition and also counts Canberra Vikings and New South Wales Country Eagles as former clubs.

Warriors head coach Carl Hogg said: "Obviously we were really disappointed to lose Francois Hougaard for a lengthy period of time but we're delighted to capture someone of Michael's quality.

"His experience playing in one of Super Rugby's best teams and alongside a host of Wallaby internationals, will only be of great benefit to our young squad."

Dowsett said: "I can't wait to join up with my new team-mates and to get out on the field and show what I can do.

"Worcester are ambitious as I am myself, and I want to showcase what I've got and try and help push this club to where it wants to be."
