Edinburgh have signed Worcester Warriors prop Derrick Appiah on a short-term loan.

The Italy youth international goes straight into Duncan Hodge's squad for Friday night's Guinness PRO12 clash with Munster at Myreside.

Appiah will provide extra cover from the bench for the capital outfit with Allan Dell and Simon Berghan away on Scotland duty ahead of Saturday's Six Nations opener with Ireland.

The clash will also see Dark Blues back-rower John Hardie step up his bid for an international recall as he makes his first appearance since undergoing surgery on an ankle injury sustained in Scotland's Autumn clash with against Australia.

Munster will be looking for the win which will send them to the top of the table but Hodge is hoping to cause an upset.

The acting head coach said: "We're looking forward to heading back to a packed house at Myreside on our return to league duties.

"Munster are an outfit heading to Edinburgh on fine form and with a chance of going top of the table, but we've also hit a fine vein of form in recent times which gives us a lot of confidence going into the game.

"We've got a good blend of youth and experience throughout the squad - with a lot of settled-looking combinations - and a team who will want to play an up-tempo and attacking brand of rugby."
