Captain signs two-year contract extension
Leeds Carnegie captain Marco Wentzel has signed a new two-year contract with the Aviva Premiership club.
The South African lock, who joined the Premiership's bottom club from Leicester at the start of last season, said: "It is an honour to captain the side, and I know that brighter days lie ahead for us.
"Obviously, we find ourselves at the foot of the table at the moment, but I have huge belief in this squad and I am sure we can get ourselves out of this situation."
The announcement of Wentzel's contract extension comes two days after Leeds lost 39-0 to leaders Saracens. They play fellow strugglers Newcastle this weekend.
Leeds head coach Neil Back added: "It is fantastic news that Marco has agreed a new deal with the club.
"Marco's professionalism and the way he carries himself both on and off the pitch is an example of where we want to take our club."
