Coach praises winger after dominant display

Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath singled out James Simpson-Daniel for praise after the former England wing's outstanding performance in the 37-23 victory over Exeter. Simpson-Daniel scored the third of five tries and proved a handful for the Chiefs' defence all afternoon and Redpath was delighted with his work ethic. "I thought he was outstanding," said Redpath. "He needs to keep working hard and getting on the ball. "He needs to demand the ball more and be in positions to create opportunities.

Performance

"He's a dangerous runner, and he must be assertive enough to go and demand the ball. "Reputation is one thing, performance is another. Today, James's performance - and in the last couple of weeks - is getting there in terms of consistency. He finished off well today, and he worked hard for the team." Gloucester made the most of some half-chances and their ambition paid off as they secured a bonus point. "We scored some good ambitious tries from playing what was in front of us. Sometimes you have to take some chances, and we did that today," added Redpath. "It was the first try bonus point win in the Premiership for us this season. We looked dangerous a lot of the time when we had possession, and that was key."

Tone

Opposite number Rob Baxter admitted his side came off second best in the tactical department. "I thought Gloucester did some very good stuff," he said. "They caught us napping with two good long-range tries that kind of set the tone for the game. After that, we probably lost our way a little bit in terms of our game-management. "And we were a yard slower than normal at the breakdown, which is unusual for us. It's normally a pretty strong area for us. "But I can't fault the work ethic. Our scrum was very good, the lineout went a little shaky at times, but as a whole, there were a lot of positives. I don't think we are going to go home with our chins on the floor. "We are a young Premiership team in terms of experience, and that was the first time for us to come to Kingsholm and experience a Premiership game. "Our focus has still got to be on collecting enough points to earn a place in the Premiership next season, and that's what we will continue to do."
