Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath said he was "chuffed to bits" following his sides' LV= Cup final triumph over Newcastle
Gloucester head coach "delighted" for players and staff
Gloucester boss Bryan Redpath will be heading out for a few celebratory beers with his LV= Cup heroes in the wake of their triumph over Newcastle in Sunday's final.
The Cherry and Whites' head coach said he was "chuffed to bits" for all those involved with the club after Gloucester finally clinched the trophy at the third attempt.
After losing in the final for the last two years - to Northampton last year and Cardiff in 2009 - Redpath's men completed a comprehensive 43-7 victory over the Falcons at Franklin's Gardens.
The coach singled out Nicky Robinson's imperious kicking display for special praise, describing his performance as "exceptional".
"The players stuck to a lot of basics," he said. "I thought Nicky's kicking to that bottom right-hand corner was exceptional and it just frustrated Newcastle.
Challenge
"It gave us a bit of strength and then we took our opportunities. I am delighted for the players and the staff.
"I am absolutely chuffed to bits for everybody involved with the club."
Redpath confirmed that tonight would be given to celebrating the occasion, but added that Gloucester's Aviva Premiership campaign would resume in earnest on Tuesday.
"We have got to enjoy tonight and have a few beers," he added. "Everyone can relax and then it is mine and the other coaches job to make sure we are focused again on Tuesday morning.
"The players should be happy about winning something because we set our sights to get as high as we can in the Premiership and win a competition.
"We've done that and now the challenge is left to push on in the Premiership and make sure we keep growing as a side and learn from tough days."
Struggling
Newcastle head coach Alan Tait said he believed that the clash was a game too far for his struggling side.
Currently lying second from bottom in the league, the Falcons caused a shock when they narrowly beat Harlequins 21-20 in the semi-finals to earn a tilt at the Anglo-Welsh cup.
"I shook Bryan's hand after the game and the first thing I said to him was 'it was probably a job too far for us"', said Tait.
"Full credit to what they are doing at Gloucester. They looked the part even in the warm-up. They are a good outfit.
"Obviously 10 games on the bounce is no mean feat, but we got stuck into the game and I still thought we had a bit of a chance at half-time because I knew we were still strong.
"We just didn't play in the right areas and when they got us to 20-0 we started to play the old barbarian stuff that doesn't really work at this level."
