Irish struggling to qualify after two defeats

Toby Booth admitted his side's display was not up to scratch as they lost 25-16 at home to Scarlets - a result which leaves the Exiles pointless after two games of this season's LV= Cup. The London Irish head coach said: "I was bitterly disappointed with our performance. "You have to win your home games whatever side you put out. It was an improvement on our performance at Sale last week but we just failed to control the ball for long periods of time." Booth added: "I was disappointed with the penalty count. We didn't seem to learn our lessons; we started off giving away penalties and kept doing so. "However you have to give the Scarlets some credit, they were very positive, especially in the second half. They earned some of those penalties." The Aviva Premiership leaders have no points from their opening two fixtures in the competition, with games against Gloucester and Northampton to come, but Booth insisted: "Mathematically we can still progress. It's still a very important competition for us and anyone who puts on the Irish shirt is expected to go out there and win."
