Tony Hanks admitted Dave Walder was "beating himself up" after his poor kicking display cost Wasps victory at Ospreys.
The visitors went down 18-13 to their Magners League opponents at Brewery Field, despite scoring the only two tries of the LV= Cup clash.
Mark van Gisbergen and Tom Varndell both touched down for Wasps but Walder was unable to add either conversion. The fly-half also failed with several penalty attempts, his misses proving costly in the final reckoning.
Wasps coach Hanks was left to wonder what could have been, though he was quick to point out there were some positive to come out of the match.
"We scored two tries to nil and could have won," Hanks said. "We missed some crucial kicks and Dave Walder is beating himself up - I don't need to tell him.
"I hate losing and going out of the competition but we played a lot of youngsters and they fronted up really well.
"This was always going to be a difficult place to come and the calibre of the players on their bench was outstanding.
"I'm especially pleased that we are scoring tries again and looking dangerous."
Satisfied
Ospreys assistant coach Steve Tandy was more than satisfied with the home team's efforts.
"It was a really great effort by the boys," he said. "Wasps brought a strong side down here and I'm proud at the way we played."
The only disappointment for the hosts was that the result was not enough to see them progress to the semi-finals of the Anglo-Welsh competition.
He added: "We've won three games in the competition and got a bonus point at Newcastle but it wasn't enough. A lot of boys fronted up to be considered for next week's Magners League game against Ulster."
