Former academy graduate to provide cover at fly-half
Matt Cornwell is set to return to Leicester Tigers after four seasons away.
The 27-year-old back graduated through the Welford Road club's academy and went on to make 41 appearances before leaving in 2008.
However after spells at Exeter, Northampton and Italian Super 10 side Mogliano, Cornwell will now return to provide cover at fly-half.
Having initially made his name as a centre, Cornwell has impressed in the No.10 shirt and will now be back up to Toby Flood, George Ford and Dan Bowden.
"Matt has been playing at fly-half in Italy and has been doing well," director of rugby Richard Cockerill told the
Leicester Mercury.
Important
"He will come here as our fourth-choice fly-half who can also play in the centres and full-back.
"But what is also important about Matt is that he knows the club and is a really good bloke.
"When you sign a bloke who potentially is not going to play in the first team every week, they need to know where they stand in the environment.
"Matt is not someone who will be sulking around if he is not playing.
"He will train as hard as anyone and, when we ask him to play, he will do a good job."
