New footage of tackle

In the wake of Brian O'Driscoll's comments that the tackle which prematurely ended his Lions tour was reckless, Sky Sports has received exlusive footage of the now infamous incident.

A clip, taken from an amateur video shot from the stands by an anonymous fan, shows the moment during the first Test between the British & Irish Lions and New Zealand when O'Driscoll is cleared out of a ruck by All Black skipper Tana Umaga and hooker Kevan Mealamu.

The footage gives a clearer view of the incident and shows O'Driscoll writhing in pain after he is removed from a ruck by the two All Blacks, lifted and then dropped onto his neck and shoulders. The Lions skipper dislocated his shoulder and missed the rest of the Test series, won 3-0 by the All Blacks, and is yet to return to action following the injury.

The footage was passed onto the International Rugby Board in June, via the Irish Rugby Union's medical team, although as yet no action has been taken against the All Black pair. Sky Sports rugby received the footage on Tuesday and it was given its first airing on Sky Sports News.

O'Driscoll's comments appeared in a serialisation of his tour diary in the Guardian and the images add weight to his claims.

"They could have broken my neck for all they seemed to care," O'Driscoll said. "They dumped me from a great height and I found myself heading for the ground more quickly than seemed natural.

"Was I speared? I think so. Slam-dunked is probably the expression which sums it up best."
