Sharks looking to bite back after rusty performance against Bath

Sebastien Chabal insists the neck injury that forced him off in the first half of Sale's EDF Energy Cup win over Bath is not too serious. The French international saw his first appearance for the Sharks this season cut short when he was hurt at the bottom of a ruck. It spoilt a stunning opening quarter from the number eight that had seen him produce some trademark runs with the ball in hand. However, his team managed to go on and win the game 25-10, Charlie Hodgson booting 20 points.

Dazed

"I'm okay. I just got hit by a big tackle and felt pretty dazed and my neck was sore, but I'm fine," Chabal said. Sale director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre added: "He has a sore neck but I don't think it'll be a worry. "It's a shame he had to go off but he brought a lot of power in the beginning." Saint-Andre was less impressed with the display of his team, admitting there is work to be done despite managing a win. "We've got a lot of work to do - it's good to have the World Cup players back, but we are rusty," the Frenchman said. "We are not precise enough in a lot of areas but it was good to beat Bath. Our defence was good but we were not precise enough in a lot of areas."
Breakdown
Bath counterpart Steve Meehan also picked out areas of concern for his side, though he was happy with their efforts in the second half. "I thought (we lost the game) at the breakdown," he said. "They got an advantage for whatever reason - I wasn't particularly happy with the way that was officiated. "But that's the way the game went. If you're allowed to play like that you might as well keep going so full marks to the guys from Sale who took advantage of that. "Our kicking game, and our kick-chase game in particular, wasn't up to scratch. "Having said that second half our guys fought on gainly and showed a lot of character and resistance. We're particularly happy with the second-half showing."
