Force prop forced to retire
Western Force coach John Mitchell has praised Angus Scott after the prop was forced to retire.
The 29-year-old Scott has previously played Super Rugby with the Brumbies and the Reds before joining the Force for their inaugural season.
However, Scott underwent surgery in June on a troublesome ankle injury and despite an intensive rehabilitation program he has been advised to hang up his boots.
And Mitchell, who is hoping Scott will continue play an active role at the club, is disappointed to lose the front-rower.
"Gus was one of the best loosehead props in Australia," he said.
"It's just a shame he couldn't have had one more season, but there's no controlling these things.
"We'll certainly miss his non-stop chatter!"
Short
Scott claimed he had no choice to admit defeat after falling short in the recovery process.
He said: "I had heel surgery in June and I have been working hard since then to get back on track, but my recovery plateaued well short of where it needed to be.
"The reality is, I just can't run at a level necessary for Super rugby. It seems my feet can't manage the training load anymore.
"I persevered and fought hard, and I gave it a lot of thought. But, in the end, I've been left with no alternative."
