New Tigers boss impressed, Gloucester chief furious
New Leicester coach Heyneke Meyer was impressed by his new side's attitude as they defeated Gloucester at Kingholm.
The Tigers won out 20-8 at Kingsholm as from Geordan Murphy and Toby Flood saw the visitors win it late on.
South African Meyer has replaced Marcelo Loffreda after his short-lived reign at Welford Road, and he enjoyed the best possible start with a tough away win.
Meyer says that he was most impressed with the attitude his side showed at Gloucester during their win.
"We always knew it would be tough," said Meyer
"We knew Gloucester would come out firing and that we would have to get stuck in and show some attitude.
"Our fitness levels showed and I was very happy with the defence. Gloucester had a lot of opportunities out wide but we defended well."
Flood was also on his Premiership debut for Leicester and had a good day with his late breakaway try adding the gloss to his all-round display.
Ryan fumes
Gloucester topped the table last season but their Premiership dreams were shattered by Leicester in the play-offs at Kingsholm.
Gloucester boss Dean Ryan saw his side waste a host of chances and he was furious after yet again his men folded in the big game.
"I am frustrated, but we know why we lost that game," said Ryan.
"It is the small things and how we are being distracted that is killing us. We should have put the game away - we had the winning of it for 70 minutes.
"We have got to look at individuals.
"Yes, we will win games this season, but whether we can win big games? We've got to find out whether the personalities can take this club forward.
"The template is there for us to be a very good side, but taking responsibility is key."
After a bad start it could get worse for Gloucester as they now head to Bath next Saturday - where they have never won a Premiership match.
