Tigers braced for 'acid test'

Image: Cockerill: satisfied with win

Acting Leicester coach Richard Cockerill was quick to look to his side's crunch clash with Ospreys after thrashing Treviso.

Flood expected to be fit for Ospreys despite back injury

Acting Leicester coach Richard Cockerill conceded his side face a genuine test of their Heineken Cup-winning credentials when they travel to face Ospreys next week. The clash at the Liberty Stadium will decide who takes top spot in Group 3 after Leicester thrashed Treviso and Ospreys narrowly lost in Perpignan. As expected, the Tigers were not tested by their Italian opponents on Saturday as they cruised to a resounding win, but Cockerill was quick to acknowledge that the showdown in Wales is likely to be a vastly different affair. "Next week will be the acid test, we are playing away from home against a good side and it will be a knockout in a lot of ways," he stated. "If we have aspirations to win the tournament we have got to be going to places like Ospreys and winning the games and getting a home quarter-final. "But there have been some shock results, as we have seen today (Saturday), and it's a very tough tournament." Cockerill insisted he was satisfied with Leicester's display against Treviso after a match in which they scored six of their eight tries in the first half. "It was a bit scrappy, as it was always going to be," he continued. "But we have put ourselves in a good position to qualify which is where we wanted to be. "We went into the game looking for quick ball and knowing that we had to score tries. The structure was good in the first half but at 40-0 at half-time it was hard to keep that structure. "With uncontested scrums from quite an early stage in the second half it became a bit sterile, but we will take it."

Flood injury not serious

England fly-half Toby Flood, who kicked six of his seven attempted conversions, was forced from the field with a back spasm, but it is not expected to keep him out of the Ospreys match. "Toby has had his problems this year - sometimes he's played poorly on occasions for us," Cockerill added. "But he keeps working hard as he always does, he's taken a step forward today and I'm sure he will again next week."
