Former Wallabies Lote Tuqiri is set for a mega-money move to France, with Bayonne leading the chase.
Tuqiri, who is without a club after his contract with the Australian Rugby Union was ripped up, had previously claimed that he would prefer to remain playing in Sydney because of his young family.
The 29-year-old has already held talks with West Tigers about a return to rugby league, but with the sides in the Top 14 not restricted by a salary cap, Tuqiri could be tempted to ply his trade in France.
"I'm off to France for a few days to talk to some of the clubs over there," Tuqiri told
News Limited.
"I'll let everyone know what's going on soon enough."
Bayonne have long been admirers of the dual-code international and current have Tuqiri's former Penrith Panthers NRL team-mate Craig Gower as well as ex-Wallabies colleague Rodney Blake in their squad.
Big spenders Toulon and Stade Francais, who have former Kangaroos centre Mark Gasnier among their number, could also be interested in the signing.
Toulon and Bayonne had both been linked to moves for South Africa winger Bryan Habana before he opted to join Western Province.
